Workshop Day Success for Housing Associations
4 November, 2011
Pro-Active Housing Associations Guinness South, L&Q and Estuary Housing have carried out a community workshop day with Playinnovation and Child UK to promote the physical, emotional and community cohesive benefits of ‘Street Snooker’ in the Shoebury area of Southend-On-Sea.
Held on site at the Friar’s Primary School playground in Southend-On Sea, the Street Snooker day was a roaring success, with a number of locals turning up to see the upcoming family interactive concept for themselves.
Children of all ages and abilities tried out various versions of the concept which included a physical workout time challenge game, where participants were split into teams of two or three people and were each given one minute per player on the clock to score as many points as possible by throwing or kicking a football at the snooker inspired targets.
Lynn Robson from L&Q Housing was overjoyed with the outcome, commenting on how well young people in particular engaged with the game and mixed with others in the community.
"It's fantastic. We know pretty much all of the participants here today and it is the first time many of them have met each other, yet they are joining in the activities together, playing in teams and forging new friendships."
Playinnovation handed a ‘Star of the day’ trophy to 13 year old Michael Hawthorne for his contribution to the day, which included helping other players and showing respect for others.
Jack Rees from CHILDUK said "This is a perfect example of how community engagement can work successfully. Not only have the mums been able to sit and have a chat, but also the Street Snooker game has kept the children fully engaged and physically active.
Street Snooker can be played in a number of ways to suit pretty much any situation, whether there are twenty players split into teams for the time challenge game or as a solo player activity.
Street Snooker is available for community and school workshop days or as low maintenance highly durable permanent outdoor installations.
